My partner and I have a gender scan/4d scan booked for our twins this Saturday and we will be just under 17 weeks gone. The clinic that booked it gave us dates for booking around this date, we have just had a normal scan at the hospital and the sonographer seems to think that we wouldn't get a good enough image at the gender scan to be able to tell what they are. Anybody had a 4d or gender scan around this time and were the results correct. I don't want to navel it because if the clinic doing the gender scan know it can be done this early, then it must be okay, surely? Advice please?

All I know is that they do a 12 week and 20 week scan in my local hospital, and try to sex the baby (or babies!) at the 20 week one.

I don't know if they can tell the sex any earlier than 20 weeks or if it just coincides with the scheduled developmental scan.

Also, it's worth remembering that it can be quite hard to tell the sex from the scan. Our local Health Board stopped telling parents for a few years as there had been some bad press about them getting so many wrong! They've started up again recently and folk are still complaining that they were expecting a boy and got a girl, and vice versa.

Very exciting to see your babies though. I've heard the 4D scans are brilliant.
You can tell the sex of the baby before 20 weeks but the later on it is the more accurate.

A lot depends on how the baby/babies are lying.
i had a gender scan at 16.5 weeks (not 4 d) and they couldn't see. I was however, able to re-book for later in the pregnancy, with no extra charge
just did a quick google search - most places recommend between 24 and 29 weeks for the 4 d scan. I think you'll be disappointed this early - the feature arent very well formed at that gestation
Netmums members mostly seem to say that if the babies are lying in the correct position, you can tell http://www.netmums.com/coffeehouse/pregnancy-64/netmums-52/450402-16weeks-4d-gender-scan-how-good-they-all.html

You can always have it verified at your NHS 20-week scan?

Just had the scan, it was amazing, we are having girls and the 4d pictures are brilliant so if anyone is thinking of having an earlier scan done, I would recommend it.
how lovely :)
benny, why did you want to know the sex of your babies ?
My sister had a 4D scan at 16 weeks with twins. Correctly told top one girl, bottom one boy. Hope all goes well, benny x
