I'm 34 1/2 weeks pregnant and was not feeling 100% yesterday. Just drained, a little bit sicky etc. I also noticed a rash on my face. I went back to bed for a sleep mid afternoon and although I still had no oomph in me I didn't feel too bad last night.

It's now 6am and I can't sleep ... again (it's getting so much harder to sleep these days with this bump!) and I was also starving so I got up. I've now noticed the rash has spread to my neck/chest. It's itchy and warm but I just look flushed.

Should I be worried?

I shall probably go back to bed now that I've filled my belly and probably sleep for a few hours and wake up feeling better but I thought I'd post the question whilst it was on my mind.

Thanks

A rash could be anything from just a heat rash or allergy to something (skin is very sensitive when pregnant) to an illness.

Best thing to do will be to call the hospital you are registered with and speak to someone of the maternity ward Explain exactly how you are feeling and ask them for advice. They may ask you to come in or they may point you in the direction of your GP.

I can sympathise totally with the unable to sleep problem. The last few weeks its almost impossible to get comfy and sleep, i think its something to do with getting you ready for night feeds once baby arrives. I always woke at around the same times as my baby did once she was born

Hope you feel better soon xxx
oh i see the poetry spammer is back. :(

Thanks redcrx. I managed to sleep for another couple of hours (after crying to husband as feeling so sorry for myself!). The rash is still there so I may give someone a call. It's difficult to know who to call though as I'm not actually registered with a hospital. I plan to give birth at the midwife led birthing centre which is a stand alone unit but doubt they could help. I have the number for my midwife but don't like to disturb her on a weekend and the Dr surgery is closed. I may see how today goes and then call the surgery first thing tomorrow morning if it gets any worse. Think I'm a little stressed too which doesn't help as I have so much on at work (finish work at the end of the month) and just so much to do in general before the baby arrives!

Thanks again for the reply.
call the hospital maternity unit nearest u, they wont mind at all, i once called the nearest one when i was holiday because of food poisoning and they were very helpful. always best to check asap just in case hun.

i hope hubby was sympathetic x

I've just called the emergency number on my maternity notes so just waiting for one of the midwifes to call me back. You're right, it's best to check.
Husband was very sympathetic fair play to him!
I'll keep you posted x

The midwife came round and did a full antenatal check. Everything seems fine with the baby so that's good. She thought it was probably viral but has told me to see my GP tomorrow, have blood test etc. My urine sample this morning was showing traces of protein and also something to do with the white cell so could indicate an infection so she's sending that off tomorrow. She just said to rest and drink plenty of fluids.
I'm eating a piece of chocolate cake now to make me feel better!
chocolate cake will probably cure you!

hope all goes well with the rest of your pregnancy.

drink raspberry leaf tea, but only at the very very end of your term!

take care :o)
Im glad ylour midwife came to see you, you can never be to careful. I often had signs of infections throughout both my pregnancies and none were ever diagnosed, both babies were fine too.
Hope the GP can shed some light on it for you.

as sara says raspberry leaf tea is a good idea at the end of pregnancy, you could possibly start in the next week or so. It tones up the uterus and can help contractions.

Im so glad u called ur midwife and everything is ok.
I had a rash on my tummy at 39 wks, it drove me mad for days, i just thought it was coz my skin was stretching. I went for my usual trip to see my consultant at the hosp and mentioned it, everyone went into overdrive! apparently i had pregnancy rash and they arranged for all sorts of tests and i was taken in the nxt day for induction. This is a form of liver condition which can be fatal for the baby.
All i knew about this rash was that it starts on ur hands and feet. It wasnt till the day after my baby was born (healthy thankfully!) that i had rash on my hands.
So if anyone else that reads this has a itchy rash then PLEASE call ur midwife or gp to check it out and ask about pregnancy rash or cholestasis is its official name xx
Good luck with ur birth xx and enjoy ur baby x they grow soooo fast xx
