i saw that in the sun last week and thought exactly the same thing
A somewhat harsh, though probably correct, diagnosis. Let's see what Sqad has to say.
It has a name. It is not a new phenomenon. I remember reading about this when I was pregnant with my daughter 20 years ago.
Lol, that's just given me a great laugh. Definitely a crock of something!
Sympathetic Pregnancy --- but the pie/beer theory is also good
Well I don't know if this bloke has it but it's a genuine thing. Google "couvade" or "sympathetic pregnancy"
It is rare, but for some reason, some men 'come out in sympathy' for their pregnant wives. It was even parodied in a Carry on film, with Charles Autrey being the victim.
Couvade syndrome, also known as sympathetic pregnancy, is a condition in which a man experiences some of the same symptoms and behavior of an expectant mother- usually when the pair are very close.

Oh! dear oh! dear....the medical world goes from bad to worse.....I agree totally with joeluke.
Another psychosomatic situation which needs a name to justify it's existence and somebody is fool enough to give it a name and then hope for credibility.

There is NO scientific basis for this "syndrome."
But you must admit, it does happen occasionally.
Sir Alec.....lot of quirks of bodily function happen occasionally, but that doesn't make them a medical condition and in many cases the explanation may be as simple as joeluke has mentioned.

We have seemed to have drifted into a psychosomatic era in which any deviation from the "normal" needs a medical name.
I have not said that anything is a medical condition, yet you seem to take joe's reasons to heart. You always prefer men, let's face it . You think that all women should be like Doris Day. If all women were like that it would be a sad world.
Sir Alec....oh! dear....you did ask my opinion....what's it got to do with me "preferring men?"

I think all women "should be like Doris Day".......????

What an odd reply...................but it IS Chatterbank.
Symptoms: Weight gain - yes, I can relate to that, the missus is a great cook.
Morning sickness - yes, that too after too many sherbets.
Disturbed sleep patterns - yes, the missus sees to that when I want a lie in.

So there you have it, ladies, the next time you're heaving your guts up in front of your better half at 8am, do not expect any sympathy from us!
sqad, do you remeber your comments about women drinking from pint glasses?
Sir Alec........No.....I don't.......but you clearly do.

I loathe women drinking from pint glasses...it is common, unacceptable and unladylike.

Is there a point to these comments from you this morning?
Is there .............a point............to you.........spacing out.........your answer?
Male 'moaning' sicknes. Like other psychosomatic illnesses is a
symptom of easy living/not enough to occupy mind & body.
Also people refuse to acknoledge shortcomings. If they can't
pass an exam today it's either the examiners' fault or take
your pick from half a dozen ''conditions' that have been
unearthed in recent years.
Sir Alec.....it is the only way that i can indicate a pause or a moment of thought, in an email.

I am open to your ideas of a different method, which i will gladly use.
thetaliesin, you should have a word with sqad, he seems to have no grip on what the world is like today for females.
He is living in the 50's when all women were like his Mum.
thetaliesin, many men go straight from their mothers, to a wife and they expect the same. They have been looked after all their lives. why should they have to rely on women?
