Hi

My baby was sick today and it came out his mouth and nose after having his feed. It looked like it was the whole bottle that came up

I was speaking to a friend who also had a cesarean and was telling her he was sick. She said that happened to her daughter and is something that is common in cesarean babies. The health visitor told her this and its nothing to worry about and will pass

Has anyone heard of this?

my daughter got sick in the same manner when she was newborn, she was not a cesarean baby though

If it comes out with great force and happens for afew days then this sounds as if it could be pyloric stenosis.

I wanted to say the same thing. Any babies can be sick and bring up milk through nose and mouth.

he's two weeks old and its happened twice. every other feed has gone down fine.

i've got the health visitor on tuesday so i'll ask her

This is not something I have heard of before.
My daughter was born by section and vomited her milk like any other baby does.
It is usually only when a baby has serious projectile vomit (in other words can vomit halfway across the room) that you might start considering pyloric stenosis.
It is really scary to see you baby vomit milk out of its mouth and nose, but it is common.

my children were sick like this when they were babies but they were natural births ,was also told it was nothing to worry about

My older son did this - both mine were c-sections. He had proper projectile vomiting. This lasted well until he was walking about. Can't say exactly when it stopped as it was a more gradual thing. beyond 9 months, it was probably only really when he was ill - cold etc. that he would do it. He is 9 now and still gets car sick and in general seems to have a more delecate tummy than his brother. We used to feed him while wrapped in a sheet to try to save the sofa and carpet. He was initially breast fed, then bottle fed - didn't seem to make a difference either way. He seemed to get a bit better once we started giving him probiotic drinks - not sure what age you can start those at. Hope that it settles down for you and the wee one.

yes, we have a name. its aaron.

it was quite a lot of sick and was on the phone to my friend at the time and hung up. when i called her back she said she had heard it bouncing off the floor.

He's only done it twice.

My daughter was a spewy baby but we discovered it was the SMA formula and after 3 months we changed to Aptamil and she was never sick again. But her sick was nothing compared to what my son produced yesterday

I've tried to google it but cant find anything on this. I'll speak to the HV tomorrow when she pops round and let you know

Ours sometimes does this when she is straining for a poo. It upsets her a little but she is ok.

I had projectile vomiting with my first son (he's now a healthy 15 year old). It was very alarming, u didn't know when it would happen (but was fairly frequent) and i couldn't give him any more milk for an hour or two or it would recur.

It worried me, til I heard someone saying that it happened with them with their baby, and it seemed to happen when he'd had just a little bit too much milk., then everything would come back up. Exactly the same thing that i saw.

I have to say that my older son suffered no ill effects from this.

Doubt very much if ur baby is suffering from pyloric stenosis, with this they will always bring their feed back up as its the sphincter muscle thats too tight and not opening wide enough to allow the feed to go into the stomach, so they vomit it back as it has no where to go. They will lose weight and cry constantly as they will literally be starving and. If by any remote chance it was pyloric stenosis it can be easily rectified with a small operation to loosen the sphincter muscle.
