This really gets my blood boiling so what should be done about those people who abuse the parent and child parking spaces?

I know what you mean. The gym I work at has parking spaces allocated to parents with children, but they are always occupied by men on their own.
nothing, its a courtasy service, if a parent is really taht hard up for a space some 10 metres closer to regular parking spaces, they can wait for someone to leave...
sports cars and transit vans fill ours.

report them when you see them, the supermarkets do fine them

tbh id rather they were moved further from the store with safe and covered walks to the store.

putting them near the cash machines is also a huge temptation to those just stopping for cash.
eyebrows its the width parents need not the closeness.
eyebrows its not that the distance at all, parents parking is wider or has an alocated space either side to be able to get child safetly in and out of car into pushchair or pram
why woudl you need width? a buggy folds up, and should be in teh boot anyway, so shouldnt be a problem....

plus its very ambigious,....60ry old man with there 30 yr old son?
I have the answer

Move P&B spaces to the far side of the car park
End of complaints about people parking there for ATM's etc
a car seat can need extra rioom to get in and out. A child can push a door into the car next to you. parents need room to keep children at side of car rather than in way of cars passing.

or use a disabled one? duh?
Yep. Move 'em all to the back of the car park then.
just as i said pink kittens
-- answer removed --
they are signed as being for parents with young children now, rather than parent and child, maybe people did push their luck
Sorry, red didn't see that

i thinp parent and child combo's should be banned from EVERYWHERE!

stay at home....char
i know of a mother who was so infuriated at not being able to get her baby seat in car she took a screwdriver to the bodywork of the car next to her! disgusting behaviour!

id rather parents had more room so that damage like that wasnt caused.
You need width to be able to unfold buggy or pram take it to side of car and get baby out without cars being able to hit the buggy which might happen if trying to do all this at back of car. I'm not even a parent And I understand that one. Think about multi-storey carparks nothing to do with being nearer any shops but you cant be stuck out in middle of a multi-storey car park trying to put baby in pram. Its all about safety not laziness, the people parking in them illegally are the only lazy ones.
gotta laugh at first post . if people parked further away from the gym people would not have to go so often and would be slimmer or try walking to the gym
of course parents need extra width, just as disabled do, the extra width allows babies to be comfortably carried into a car seat, to safely move a disabled person into a car.

the doors on a car with children are likely to be open wide as opposed to a person on their own who can shimmy into their cars.

People with children and disabled tend to carry more equipment with them.

why ban them when they serve such a useful service, maybe the able bodied or people without kids need to learn to walk a bit further without moaning
I want to know why parents take their children to the gym???
