We have made a fuss today of my 2year old son picking his bedding and 'helping' building his new big boys bed all day today, and have talked about it for a few weeks....he was made up going to bed tonight, and I hid all his toys/books etc so he would have no distractions, and fitted a bed guard to make him feel more secure. So far since 19:45 he has been up and down, shouting from the stairgate on his door "Whats everybody doing down there" We have managed to do the supernanny thing and just put him back in bed without a word, but he still is'nt settling!!! There was just another thud then!! Do we have to grin and bear it untill he gets used to his new sleeping arrangment or does anybody have and top tips??? ANYTHING would be greatly recived!!!

have you tried laying with him for a while and saying how lovely his bed is. Calm him down and talk about how proud you are he is getting a big boy etc. I know laying with them is against the rules but i don't think a bit of extra love and attention on such an occasion is too much to ask.
daginge - hows the new bed going
Im going through it too, first time was last night, i laid with him for about 30 mins and hyped it up and told him how wonderful he was and promised hem stickers if he stayed in bed all night, he did even tho he got up at 6.30! few probs tonight but hard faced as it seems i let him cry for about 10 mins then everthing went quiet, went up to see if he was ok and he was happily tucked up and fast asleep though he had the contents of his toy box in bed with him. He has only just turned 2 too, so i think persevernce will be the key to sucess
hi my little girl has just turned 2 aswell and i have just cracked it at last took me abot 2 weeks from music tv and finally i bought her a barbie bed cover and because she is barbie mad she now say's "going bed with barbie mummy night night so try this approch it worked wonders for me
Could be that the question "what's everybody doing down there?" is the key.
I read it as, everything up here seems different, is it still the same elsewhere?
Simple reassurance with lots of comforting visual detail- I am going downstairs now to have a cup of tea, in my favourite red mug, then I'll pop up to my bedroom with the washing from the clothes horse - that sort of thing.
It got mine through some sticky moments!

Thanks so much for the advice everybody!! We seem to have cracked it now, some nights he will go straight to sleep, other nights he will have a little sing and a shout down to us to check we are still here! A thomas the tank duvet cover seemed to top it off for him, now he goes to bed with thomas, to look after his teddy bears (he takes about 15 to bed!) so they wont get scared in the night!! its taken a few weeks, but i think it was probably us that need to relax aswel!!
