Have you had a word with your health visitor? It is possible that he has a hearing problem and so a) can't hear you properly when you say no and b) is taking out his frustration at not being able to hear properly on you.

I'm sure you're not a bad Mum, it is hard with little ones. I know they can get you down but try and keep him entertained by playing with him. If he has your attention more he may not be as naughty and if he is naughty or smacks you you can make his punishment that he has to be in a seperate room than you for 10 minutes or something.

Do keep your pecker up and do have a word with your Health Visitor.
you cant punish an 18 monthold baby, of course he doesnt listen hes a baby, talk to him play with him, take him to the . join a mother and baby group, when he smacks you just take his hand and looking him in the eye say firmly NO, apart from that he perfectly normal, get a grip you're the adult hes the baby.
This is normal for an 18 month old to behave this way, you just have to let him know when he behaves badly that you are angry, have you never heard the saying terrible twos. I know it isnt easy especially if you suffer with depression, perhaps he is getting vibes off you aswell. I agree with the last answer with regards the rest. Good Luck wait until he reaches his teens that is a totally different ball game
You have my full sympathy because I have had a similar problem with my son - who is also 18 months old. I have two daughters as well who although went through the 'terrible twos' , never hit me - unlike my son who started nipping , smacking and biting me , as well as his two elder sisters. Naturally I was quite concerned with this behaviour and so I had a word with my health visitor who advised me that because a child's vocabulary is limited at this age and they can not articulate their feelings and needs , this can boil over into displays of frustration and is sometimes vented with displays of anger. In my case , my son is very clingy and would breastfeed all day if I let him (which is obviously not possible with two other kids to divide attention between) and hates to see me showing attentuion and affection to my girls. I was told to remove him from the situation when he hits/bites/nips by putting him in a safe place ie cot or playpen for a few minutes , to give him the message that it is not acceptable. You should also say NO to him firmly to let him know that it is not on and reward him with kind words when he is loving. Ask him for nice soft touches and cuddles and show him how to touch you softly. Praise him when he does this.

I have noticed a change in my son since I started doing this and he stops himself before nipping me and cuddles me and strokes my arm now for soft touches.

It does get better honestly but make sure that you have plenty of support. The most important thing is to look after yourself and keep yourself well for the sake of your child. Take care xxx
