Is there only me who finds earrings on young children and especially babies revolting?

I went shopping today (I do go out occasionally!) and I lost count of the number of toddlers I saw with them in.

My baby is 16 months old and she better not want her ears piercing till she's at least 12!!!

"I worked in a mall for quite sometime, and saw many young children (3-4) years old get their ears peirced and they hardly flinched"

Hardly flinched. Oh, that's alright then. At least the parents only hurt them a bit. I suppose babies hardly cry when they get a needle shot through their ears.

Oh, and no, I don't think it's 'cute'.

You all are over acting, oh my goodness! First of all have any of you ever had your ears peirced in the first place? Some of you ladies sound like you are 70 years old. And tattoo's, toungue peircing, belly rings.....that is TOTALLY different. Your ears are made of cartiladge. Cartiladge is avascular meaning it contains no blood vessels...it is completely different that getting a tattoo or anyting else for that matter. Getting a shot is more painful then getting your earpeirced. And if it gets infected then clean the childs ear for cryin out loud, or buy a stud they are not allergic to. Common sense.
No Dancealot, common sense is to not pierce the body of a baby to turn them into a fashion accessory, they aren't dolls! I would have been terribly annoyed when I grew up if my mum had decided to get me perforated when I was too young to express a wish for her to do so.

The common sense line was directed towards the care of your childs earlobe if it gets infected.

Yes I have had my ear pierced on two different occasions. Blood vessles or not, it hurt both times. Don't worry though, I was a big boy & didn't cry. But of course, that's the point we've all been making - I was old enough to know what I was doing & decide for myself.

I don't think cart piercings are performed on young babies..at least I hope not! these piercings are high up the ear, not on the lobe themselves.

Best way to avoid infection is not to pierce babies ears in the first place. Yes, I have piercings ~ 3 in one ear & 2 in the other. I first had my ears pierced when I was 6, I am now 38 years old. My 16 year old daughter has her ears pierced several times (the first at age 15) & now has her navel pierced & is planning on getting her nose pierced too. My 8 year old had her ears pierced last year ~ at her request.

The bottom line is that babies don't ask for their ears pierced. Why put them through it? no, I don't think it looks cute either. It looks nasty.

Well fine then, ;) Im the only person in this entire site that thinks it's cute for young kids (not infants) to have their ears pierced.
