I have asked a similar but not same question before but I need help again. Now that I have no landline phone and just use this mobile it means I need to leave it switched on at night in case I get a call re my elderly mother from her care home.

I have tried to set it so that I can receive calls only but I am still getting emails notification sound at night which I cannot stop. I went into settings - sound and left ringtone on max but muted the 'media volume' thinking that was for emails and text but a text arrived and the notification sounded'

So I thought that emails and texts came under media but I am getting emails at night and the sound wakes me up - but I must keep calls active. What am I doing wrong please?

Thanks

You need to use 'Do not disturb' but only AFTER you've configured the options within that function. This is based upon my Samsung Galaxy phone but any Android phone should be much the same: Pull down from the top of the screen. LONG-press on 'Do not disturb'. Under 'Exceptions', tap on 'Calls, messages and conversations'. Tap on 'Calls' and choose 'All',...

You need to use 'Do not disturb' but only AFTER you've configured the options within that function.

This is based upon my Samsung Galaxy phone but any Android phone should be much the same:

Pull down from the top of the screen.

LONG-press on 'Do not disturb'.

Under 'Exceptions', tap on 'Calls, messages and conversations'.

Tap on 'Calls' and choose 'All', 'Contacts only' or Favourite contacts only', as desired.

That should be all that you need to do. However, while you're in the 'Do not disturb' settings, you might want to use the option to automatically turn on that function between the same hours every night, rather than having to enable it each time that you go to bed.

Thanks for that
Seems to work ok. What I missed was messages and notifications to turn off but still allow calls. Then press do not disturb!
There was an option as you said to limit it to certain callers in my contact list like the Care Home.
Will try it tonight but am sure it will be ok.
Thanks again - helpful as usual

I've been fiddling with my XA1 to see what's going on - a bit tricky for me cos I don't actually use my XA1 for calls, it's more of a music player and a back up if my main phone develops a fault.

I think what you need to do is go into your "do not disturb" settings and edit it accordingly.
Set your phone to go on silent at your specific times, but you can allow exceptions, which will allow your phone to ring, but mute everything else.
Settings >>> Sound >>> Do Not Disturb
At the top of this page is "allowed in priority only"
Click on this and make sure everything is unticked.
Press on "calls" and select whether you want to allow calls from "anyone", "contacts only", "starred contacts only" or "none".
Probably be best to select "anyone" in your case.

Now go back and click on your automatic rules - make sure the "on" button is checked and scroll down to "do not disturb". Mine is set on "alarms only" which means that everything is muted apart from any alarms I may have set.
Set yours to "priority only".
If I'm correct this will mute your phone for the selected time period, but it will allow whichever calls you decided to set.

..... hopefully ...... fingers crossed :)

Thanks Gizmonster - that was very detailed especially as you have an XA1. I have gone through exactly as you said and will try it tonight - a bit complicated but think I got it right!
Previously when I tried I kept getting Amazon updates on my GMail early hours! I am quite elderly and had BT landline for 45 years! but only used it say 20 times a month and now have this XA1 which I use just for calls and gmails for a fiver a month and have been paying BT including calls and bband over £35 a month.
They have now given me a BBand only contract for £15 a month which I am pleased with.
Thanks again for going thru your XA1 and finding this for me

I'm not 100% sure it will work, but it seems like it should.
The method I explained should mute everything apart from whichever calls you allow in priority.
