my 5 and a half months old boy can roll from his back on to his front and has been sleeping on his side for the last six weeks or so. recently he's started to turn on to his front in his sleep and i don't know if I should leave him to it or turn him back on to his back when I see him. basically I'd like other mums opinions since books only talk about newborns and how they should sleep on their backs but nothing about babies old enough to roll by themselves.

my little boy slept on his tummy from about the same age, ie, when he could roll, my health visitor said that as soon as they can roll they will choose how to sleep!! its ok for them to sleep like it, so dont worry, coincidently, when my little boy started sleeping on his tummy he slept the best he had ever ever done before!!

If you are still worried ask your health visitor and she can reassure you x

thank you!

thats pretty much what I thought but I just wanted a second opinion. he's my first child and theres enough horror stories about cot death around to make anyone jumpy, so a little reassurance was needed.

I look forward to the extra sleep, then ; )

Wait till he's reached 10 months like mine....not only are they on their fronts, with a big nappied bum stuck up in the air, but they've turned all way round as well :-)
be thankful he then sleeps my little monkey rolls on his belly then goes into hysterics cause he cant get back again.....bless him.
Aaaaah these posts are making me go all goooey, thinking of the little nappy-clad bums in the air ... <sigh> ... broodiness!
Let him sleep how he chooses. If you keep rolling him back, you will start to become anxious and sleep deprived!!
