"the Secret" Is Just Sickening

I have posted this elsewhere on this site, but decided to make it "mainstream" on AB as I want to make my feelings known. Others may disagree.
"There is no plot in this poorly made, hastily cobbled together money-maker that opens up and revels in the pain of two innocent families who have not even begun to come to terms with the pain that invaded their lives. Trevor Buchanan and Leslie Howell were not the only victims of these two killers - their families, particularly their children, have suffered intense pain. The story portrayed in The Secret is not a plot, nothing clever about it, just a series of tragic, harrowing circumstances brought to life again by actors for the titillation of the viewing public, who care nothing for the agony behind the Wow! factor. James Nesbit is a fine actor that I have always known and admired - we share the same home town - I have always had the greatest respect for him, but this has now gone - vanished in the face of his willingness to disregard the suffering on his doorstep, suffering that he is helping to increase and prolong. It was inevitable that some writer with an eye to the money would write about the events surroundings the deaths of Trevor Buchanan and Leslie Howell. But to bring this to mainstream TV as entertainment, with such a fanfare of publicity and drama, so soon after the events, is cruel. Colin Howell and Hazel Buchanan (Stewart) are now where they belong, behind bars for a long number of years. Some respect and consideration for their families, who have suffered so much, would be the humane thing now. I guess this is too much to ask. People love a bit of sensationalism, and stuff those that get hurt."

Have the families complained, do you know? I only watched the first episode, didn't care for it much.
Question Author
Yes, the families have made their feelings known and after the first episode they begged ITV to take the series off. ITV refused.
I had never heard of this case before I started watching the series. From what you say I'm surprised that the producers didn't seek the agreement of the families before proceeding. That said, as a television drama, I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
I am also enjoying it. I feel sorry for the families involved, but then there is human suffering everywhere. I don't see how anyone can blame actors for doing their jobs,
I heard James Nesbitt talking about The Secret on the radio a few weeks before it began on TV. I was certainly intrigued enough to watch and am "enjoying" it as much as anyone can considering the very tragic circumstances surrounding it. I had never heard of this case before and feel heart sorry for the families involved.
What would be a suitable time lapse between a distressing real life event and the production of a television programme?
I don't know Naomi. The Dail Mirror last week listed 15 obvious clues that were overlooked in the investigation. I find that frightening and am amazed that he got away with it for so long.
Really? I'd be interested in seeing those. I must admit, going only by the television programme, the initial investigation did seem a bit airy-fairy. All sorts of people keep giving him suspicious glances, but that seems to be as far as it goes.
To think he believed God was with him on this one !
I am no prude, but was it necessary to show those almost pornographic scenes, as screened in last night's episode?
AOG...if you believed those scenes to be pornographic, then I would have to say, yes, you are a prude.

Please read what I put, "Almost Pornographic".

The please read my comment with "almost" put before "pornographic"

Then obviously I am not only a prude but also not such an expert on pornography, as you appear to be.
Psybbo, thanks very much for that. I also thought that the way he was lumping the bodies about surely there must have been indications of manhandling on them. All very odd.
AOG,

Baths used to seeing porno :-)

It was a little bit unusual, but how on earth do these actors keep control of their desires?
No comment on the subject because I can't be bothered to read a lot of text with no paragraphs. Just saying.
