He usually needs 11 - 12 hours sleep. This can alter a little from child to child, and will also depend on if he has naps during the day, but you should be aiming for 11 hours or there abouts.
Sleep is important to a toddler, I think. One of ours sleeps 12 hours with an hour nap, and the other sleeps about 10 hours with about a 2 hour nap. Lucky things.

I would suggest he's in bed a bit earlier, say 8-ish.

Is he sleeping through? My 18 month old does sometimes, but by no means always!

from the age of 2 my little boy, now 6 goes to bed at 7pm and is up at 7am, the only things that change that are if we are out, or if he gets hot and its too light outside then he gets up earlier.

Yes he sleeps through, except on the odd occasion when he's hungry. He usually wakes for about a minute or two every night thoguh, just whining. He then sleeps as soon the dummy is in his mouth again.
My 31 month old dd goes to bed at 9pm - even if we put her to bed earlier she won't go to sleep till then. She wakes up anywhere between 7am and 8.30am. So she has anything between 10 and 11.5 hrs sleep.

In this warm weather she's been having 1 - 1.5 hrs kip as well.

Sorry I meant to say *1 - 1.5 hrs kip in the afternoon*
hi there jackie0 my twins are 22 months now and go to bed at 6.30pm and are up from about 7am. During the day they have an hours nap. At their bedtime they say bed and start climbing the stairs it's cute not to mention a relief
Hi Jackie  I don't think there's any must about it, so try not to worry.  My wee guy is 21 mnths old and goes to bed at 8pm ish, awake by 7am ish, and naps for 1-2hours in the middle of his day.  So he's getting anywhere between 11 and 13 hours a day.  But at oru Mothers and Toddlers group, there's a huge variation in sleep times among kids his age.  Some don't nap, and some sleep for much shorter periods at night.   If he seems hapy and thriving, he may well be just fine on the routine he's in.  If it were me, the only thing that would slightly bother me is how late he is up at night.  Purely because it must mean that you get very little time to yourself, or alone with your hubby, so for that reason I'd try him with an earlier bedtime.  But if you're happy and he's happy, then go with the flow.
i think that's a question only you can answer. my son is 2 1/2 years old. we let him fall asleep when he wants. usually around 9- 9:30. and he gets up around 6:30 in the morning. sometimes he takes an hour or two nap. i don't force him to sleep. it might make it harder on me when he goes to school though. but i think it depends on your child. if he gets cranky from not enough sleep then you should put him to bed early. if he's fine then i say leave him alone. good luck with your decision!
My 19 mth twins have a nap from 12.30 til 2pm.Bed at 7.15pm and wake us up at 8am. By all accounts this is quite good ?!!!
