I've had the speech therapist to the house today. She's spent time with my son

I've spoke about him a lot on here. I have noticed a slight 'mellowing' of him since our first hospital appointment a couple of months ago

She said he seemed to be a 'spirited child'. I'm quickly googling this and trying to read about it before I have to go out but it definately fits.

Has anyone heard of this term before?

Anything to do with vodka?
Did she mean that he's a confident child? Sounds like a good thing.
i dont think its a medical term. isnt it just a polite way of saying misbehaved?
bright lively and likely to be rather adventurous... don't think its a technical term
I love spirited children! Those with a bit of spark about them! Better than the sullen ones who stare at you all the time and never open their mouths.
I used to complain that my children were always running about and never sat and watched TV all day like other children I knew, but now they are great adults with 'spirited' children of their own!!
maybe a polite way of saying a bit naughty ?
A 'spirited' child is one with his or her own way of doing things and who marches to the beat of their own drum- I'm the father to several of them ...lol- try not to let it worry you, it's simply another label for an individual.
They will be diagnosing him with ADHD next.

haha, i'd have that with coke please

she mentioned it when i was discussing ways of diciplin i'd tried and nothing seems to work and how he's on a mission of distruction and also when i was saying how he has to do everything for himself e.g i'll put him in the bath and thats not good enough he has to get out and start again and do it his way and get in the bath himself and how he decided he wanted potty trained at 18 months

i think out of all the terms its quite a nice one, just saying that he's a bit harder work than the norm but it will all come together eventually
Heard the expression used with regard to horses, spirited= uncontrollable. With toddlers = sense of adventure or eagerness to learn, not a bad thing really.
Ask to be tested for Aspergers, putting himself in the bath and early potty from himself suggests similarities to friends son, they have to do things 'their' way
I think that it sounds a nice thing to be - individual and interesting, a child with a purpose in life - I'd rather have one like that than a little "sheep". Much more interesting for the parents too.
I have two of these amazing children! I am pretty sure i was one too! As some have said on here there are people who think they are naughty and others who think they have ADHD or Aspergers, usually schools think this. In my opinion they are absolutely lovely and normal (whatever that means) its just about channelling their energy into positives instead of negatives, my boy always needs to be doing something, he rarely watches tv but invents and makes games, machines and experiments! They need loads of time outdoors and exercise so we cycle or walk as much as possible. If we are at home we dance round the house or chase each other! We are always busy but we have a lot of fun, getting housework done is hard for me, i get mine to help me with jobs sometimes and make it fun.
