i have 2 boys ages 2 and 3. they are both pretty clever for there age and love to use my computer. the thing is i have a brand new system and i try not to let them on it. they both a computer in the nursery they are at. do you think it would be useful to buy them there own. i know people are going to say they are only 2 and 3 and there too young. but i was thinking of a cheap second hand system, nothing special and no internet on it. they would use it to just do writing on and play childrens games.any thoughts on this? my partner is saying they are too young but as i see it they know how to use my one and if i only by them educational games they will benefit from it,

what do you think??

I think the idea of a reconditioned stand-alone, placed in a family area, is a great idea for these kids. Go for it. If they are showing interest they are not too young - if they were curious about books it would not be considered valid to keep them away till a certain age.

Hi lozzylou - I have a 5 year old son who uses my pc and he can access the internet. He puts ceebies and Thomas the tank engine games on - check them out - Your kids will like them.
Also don't worry about zacsmaster he's a dick and that's why this site disappoints me, you ask a genuine question and some idiot try's to belittle you. there's no need for it

thanks ken-d-wood, i have decided to get them a cheap one for xmas. i know some people think it is a big present for 2 toddlers but i can see then learning alot from it. and i totally agree with u, he is a dick!!!!!!!!!
I think it's a good idea as long as you restrict its use and invest in some really good educational software games which will help them develop their skills, rather than some of the mindless games which are available. It will also hopefully ensure that your valuable new computer doesn't get interfered with.
Just one thing though. Please don't let them neglect their reading skills and books. These too are very important, and if children are encouraged to enjoy reading when young, this will stay with them all their lives.

yeah course i do zacsmaster, they swear at me like that too......u idiot
My own little 'un is nearly 4 and adores the CBeebies website.

It astonishes you really how quickly they pick up how to operate the mouse and do the drag and drop games.

Your only concern will be trying to limit the time they're on it.
How about them learning to read, write or count? Or play with sand and water? Children need to interact with people and learn about the world around them. I think it's far too young for a computer - they've got the rest of their lives for that!
