got a version of linux on dvd with others....how can i get it working??

got a computer magazine which had 8.5 gb of linux stuff. lots of different stuff. a couple of them were cds of linux live cds....how do i get this stuff off the dvd and onto my laptop to try them out. have burned one of them onto a cd and put it in to the cd drive of laptop but nothing happens. I think its supposed to load into ram automatically.... when I try to look at what is on the cd I just get a message of something like iso and some numbers ...can anyone help.

It probably depends on the coverdisk itself... There's usually instructions in the magazine that accompanies the software. You might have to, for example, uncompress the files and burn them to another CD/DVD to work...
