Not normally stumped by this but this week..... I presume the southern most village is Lizard, the garden in question MIGHT be Bonython Manor, but I CANNOT find a second lighthouse that fits the clues. Am I on the wrong track??

^^^ I'm not actually seeking to enter the competition. I simply followed Gyroman's starting point, which clearly misled me. Now if I'd simply entered this line into Google (which is probably what I'd done if I'd not had the Cornish bum steer to start off with), I might have got there a lot faster! "lighthouse" "63 steps" "1900" (PS: 72ft = 22m)

For anyone who wants to read the clues:
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/travel/where-was-i/

Like you, Gyroman, I can't find any lighthouse that fits the description listed on any of the main websites about lighthouses in Cornwall.

However the 'small town' could well be Perranuthnoe. Going 2 miles NW from there takes you to Marazion, where you'll find this:

A possibility, perhaps?
You're both in the wrong country, and waaaay too far south. Big Scare is one of the "scary" rocks.

it says "in this country", but "this" may be the answer rather than the question?
Yes, Jno.

The clues are written in the form of diary entries, so 'here' or 'this country' will refer to wherever the writer is at the time of making that entry in his/her diary, rather than to where the reader might be later on.

From the page Header (as Chris should know)

NOTE: this is not a place to ask Quiz and Puzzles question, or to give complete sets of answers to crosswords or quizzes.

report it at once, Baldric, it's your civic duty!
Good point, Jno.

This thread should really be in 'Quizzes & Puzzles' (because 'Offers and Competitions' is meant for announcements about such things) but it's hardly the end of the world if a thread occasionally ends up in the wrong place.
^^^ Oops!

I typed 'Jno' instead of 'Baldric'. Sorry about that!
(It must be alcohol deprivation!)
There's also a subtle way of guiding someone towards the right topic as I did earlier in Ed's Blog. :-)

Oops - thanks all for pointing out my schoolboy mistakes (not a newbie but not been around for a long while). "To assume makes an ass out of u and me...". I'm one the right track now. Admin please move or delete as appropriate...
Hi Gyroman, I was led up this path until I realised it was Scotland!
