Got mine this morning, horrified to see £12 charge and interest for late payment. I always pay same or next day after receiving it. Checked back and last month got the bill on 4th 5th of Jan instead of 24th Dec.which I didn't notice at the time. Paid it on the 5th, should have been in by 9th. So I phoned them this morning, suggested they look at my history of payments. Person agreed with me, said it was due to weather holdups and would cancel all charges on next months statement. So it can be worth complaining sometimes.
Just thought I would share this with you.

Yes, I had a hiccup once, and appealled to their better nature.

If they can see you have a good rcord, they will be kind.

It is worth getting a direct debit for the minimum payment (or the full amount if you can manage it every month)

That way you will never get late fees.

How does that work if you pay the full amount off each month as we always do?
Yes, definitely set up a direct debit for the minimum payment. You could be in hospital, a postal strike, cheque lost in post, anything.

It will save you the cost of a stamp and the trouble of posting it each month, too.
Well you can instruct them to take the full amount, as I do. It automatically goes out on the due date.

If you are not sure you have sufficient to pay every month, you can elect to direct debit the minimum payment. To pay the rest, just subtract it from the balance and send them a cheque for the rest.
My bill came extremely late as well, luckily I manage my credit card online, so had already checked it and paid before the paper copy arrived.
You can arrange to pay the full amount each month by direct debit.

Remember that the DD will not happen until you see in on your statement that it will be collected on a specifed date

Ours is a bit more complicated, we both use it and when the bill comes I sort out who owes what and we send 2 cheques.
That sounds ridiculously complicated.

Why don't you each get a credit card?
Question Author
It started out quite uncomplicated, quite easy to manage, but over the last year or so
it has got more complcated, there are bills that apply to both of us so half each applies
I cope with it though
Easy, one of you pay it in full by direct debit and the other pays his or her share to the payer.
