I have a standing order set up to pay RBS on a specific date every month. Due to an error at work my wages did not reach my account in time this month and happened to be while I was away for a few days so did not know until 3 or 4 days after. Straight away I made sure I received my wages and called RBS to tell them the standing order had failed and gave them my debit card details to take the payment. However, I noticed on my account yesterday that they have also taken it by standing order again so I have paid twice. I called them and was told that firstly I should have been informed the standing order would go through again so I did not need to give my debit card but that it takes RBS ten days to receive my standing order payment from my Barlcays account and then a further 5 days to refund it. (all working days). This means it will take over 2 weeks for me to get my money back. Can someone tell me if these time scales are correct as ten days seems a very long time to me and the amount makes quite a difference to my balance, possibly effecting other payments.

It shouldn't take 10 days for a standing order to get from Barclays to RBS, it usually takes 3. What is it going to pay? If it is a credit card or similar, it will take a bit longer as they then have to allocate it to your particular card acc once received. Still shouldn't take 10 days though.

Thanks for your answer. The money is to pay the finance on my car. After speaking to RBS again they advised me they have to wait 10 days before they will refund as my bank can claim the money back within 10 days, so I called my bank and got them to do just that. So now I will have my money back in 2 days and my bank take it up with RBS.
