Will i get my tax back! I have been doing two jobs, one paying more than my usual one. I received my wage from my second job, havent submitted a p45 to them and grossed 470.00 and shockingly paid half in tax. This is 40 percent which i thought was for the over 34.000 pound worker. I was shocked and said i thouyght the government was doing me even though i worked harder. Is this the right tax or is it emergency code.

How much did you earn gross and how much was the Tax paid? Do not include National Insurance.

Earned 464.00 gross,paid 186.00 in tax
Which is indeed 40%.
Normally a second employer is told by HMRC to deduct tax at Basic Rate and they give you a Tax Code of 'BR' for this - its in the guidelines from HMRC to employers on how to manage PAYE. This means you should have paid 22% tax on it in the FY just finished.
Why your second employer has done this, I don't know, but on what you say it is plainly wrong. You will get the money back, but you now need to complete a tax return with all your earnings on it. HMRC will then look at the whole amounts, realise it doesn't exceed the higher rate threshold and refund you the difference. The sooner you initiate this the sooner you get your money back.

470.00 new building job only lasting seven weeks and continueing yearly job 180.00 =650.00 yes a yearly total would be over 36.000 thousand but i am only doing the second job for seven weeks, surely i should get the excess tax back. I could understand it if i was earning 650.00 every week of the year,it seems very unfair, i am a low paid worker and i am given no incentive to work hard. Sorry i ve just finished work, thats why i,m late,i am so greatful to you.
I am angry at the tax man
Okay, but how would the tax man know at this stage that your second job will only be a short term job? I think the PAYE calculation will assume that is going to be your salary going forward. I'm not sure you should be angry with the tax man, although i can understand your frustration.

yes thanks but will i get the tax back in seven weeks my good wise friend
Hope so but you may have to wait until later in tax year as tax man may think you'll get another well paid second job. But if you ring and explain I hope they will sort it out quickly.
