I really need to sort my finances out and get rid of my debts and have decided that the best way to go is with a secured loan. Unfortunately due to a not very good credit record, my mortgage lender has turned me down for an additional advance although there is enough equity in my houe for what I need (c15K). I haven't got any CCJ's, just some missed/late payments.

I will obviously need to go to one of those companies that deal with less than perfect credit scores but my question is, in a couple of years time when my rating has improved (due to all my debts having been paid off!) will there be anything to stop me getting an increasd mortgage or loan from a mainstraem lender and payiing this one off?

Probably not - but you may be hammered by early repayment penalties, that could prove expensive.
