My mother lent my partner 8,000 when he got himself into debt. My partner and I are now going through a break-up and I want to be assured that he will pay all the money back to my mother. He says he will, but I'm not sure. How can I make sure that he will pay the money back. Are there any steps I can take to make sure he does. Do I need him to sign a sworn statement?

Do/did you live together? he may end up arguing that the money helped both of you.

Signing a statement may help if he later defaults and your mother takes him to court. Does your mother have any proof of the loan?

Yes, we do live together at the moment. But the money was to help him clear his debts in his current account etc. Does anyone have a template of the correct wording i use when drawing up an agreement that he can sign?

Thanks.
