Does anybody know if it is possible to cancel a contract for hire purchase on a 3 piece suite several days after signing a contract for a 4 year no deposit agreement. Delivery time was 10 weeks. No money changed hands. Contract signed in store about 4 days ago. Isnt there a cooling off period where the buyer can change their minds on purchase? Thanks

I am almost certain that you have a cooling off period of about 10 days to 2 weeks so you should be fine - if you havent taken delivery of it and you cancel any direct debit they cant really do anything you just refuse to accept the delivery - but i am sure you are ok anyway
as above,

no money changed hands.. the only thing they have on you is a signiture

ring your bank and stop the direct debits,

DO NOT accept the delivery

check through the contracts and credit agreement you signed, you may have to write to them and cancel the agreement, or you may find yourelf liable for the initial interest fee and any delivery charges
The cooling off period applies when the contract has been signed away from the sellers' premises - such as your home or office.

Contact the seller straight away, and tell them you wish to cancel. They could be awkward and insist you honour the contract, but this is unlikely.

Write to the seller, and send a copy to the finance company, if different.

Cancel any direct debits set up.

Be polite but firm throughout.
