My mother in law is due to have an operation soon and will have to have 3 months off work.

Problem being staturory sick pay will not cover even half her bills/mortgage etc ..

Anyone know of anywhere that could help her in any way ?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Sadly I'm not sure there is any state benefit which will cover the deficit. I can only recommend that your mother contacts her bank, mortgage provider, etc. to explain her dilemma and ask if they will allow her to pay her bills by instalments. Her mortgage provider might let her have a payment holiday, paying only the interest. The important thing is to be "up front" with the various providers so that they know the shortfall will probably only last for a short time. If the family can't help her out, are there any local language colleges locally to whom she could provide a room for a foreign student for a few weeks which might provide a little rent to help cover the shortfall?
It depends on your mother-in-laws circumstances, if she is alone and has savings under the limit she may be entitled to income support, try the freephone 0800 88 22 00, She may have an insurance policy on the mortgage check it out.
statutory sick pay is set at a level by government and nobody could or would pay her any more than what she is legally entitled to which I think is just over 63 pounds a week.

Some bills let you take out payment protection, but it is an unfortunate situation to be in - and maybe once this 3 months is over you might think about taking out some kind of insurance should it happen again.
