Advice about Qatar

I am about to travel to Qatar for a short visit with a view to taking a longer-term work assignment there.

In anticipation of this, does anybody have any advice, good or bad, about Qatar (specifically Doha, the capital) which they feel might be useful to somebody visiting the region and/or planning to work there?

Things I would like to know about include;

  • accommodation

  • cost of living

  • internal transport (cars, buses etc.)

  • safety and security

  • visas / work permits

  • taxation (for a UK national)

  • and, probably most importantly, anything that a foreign visitor ought to know about, but doens't even realise that they need to! (If that makes sense!)

Advice based on your own personal experience would be preferred, but all comments gratefully received.

I know that some of these items aren't really about travel, but overall I think that travel is the best-fit category to post the question in.

You could try asking your questions in the forum. Look at one that has already been answered as well.
