could be a scam - take care
Sound very iffy. Contact either the company directly or their share registrars if you know who they are.
I used to have Sky shares, then all shares were compulsory purchased back.

Few months later I got phone call that came through the call blocker (caller followed the instructions).

He was phoning about my 275 shares. (I had had a lot more than that!)

I told him that I didn’t have them and that nobody had them any more because of the buy back.

Next question - “had I received the money”

Told him that he was trying to scam me and hung up on him!
The registrar is Equiniti. Here's a link.

Firms do reissue and rejig shares but usually tell you. Make sure your address is as is. If you had bought 100 shares orig issue in Bill gates thieves' emporium - microsoft that is ! you would as a result of reissues, further issues, rejigs etc etc be sitting on mucho mucho moolah ( $100m or something ridiculous)

Costain nearly went bust so that wont happen here !
did you ever get any dividends? If not you might find you signed up to reinvest them in buying more shares. But yes, follow novalis's advice before you do anything.
