Tried to send parcel to friends in Portugal, Post Office said no! I asked if it was because of Covid or Brexit and they said Covid. Does anybody on here work for the PO? Just wondering if other people know anything about this, thanks.

I don't know the reason but imagine this could be because the system is clogged up with stuff for abroad and they don't know when things will improve (whether because of Covid or Brexit).
It might have been previous advice but not now.

"Last updated: Tuesday 29 December 2020

Welcome to our international incident bulletin; a round up of any issues which may be affecting mail services to and from countries around the world.

We keep this information as up-to-date as possible, with information supplied to Royal Mail by the various foreign national postal authorities.

Coronavirus Impact

Royal Mail and Parcelforce services to Europe have been reopened and are now fully operational. For items posted today, customers should expect a delay up to 2 working days for some countries.

We're working with our airline and postal/courier partners across the globe to maintain services, however delays should be expected. Many countries have implemented special measure to combat the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19, especially for signature service to maintain social distancing. The number of countries we can access is changing daily.

We strongly advise not to send items to destinations listed as ‘On suspension’."

Portugal is not suspended
I know of a couple of other people who have had parcels refused today.
Where do your friends live in Portugal. I use a transport service to the Porches area. They charge roughly 5 euros for parcels that are in the Mailbag. More for individual larger items. Send to Andover. Lorry leaves Fridays ready for pickup here following Weds. Reopen Jan 4
Have they read to-day's bulletin?
We regularly send parcels abroad and do so using https://www.parcel2go.com/

Cheaper and farm more reliable than Post Office or Parcel Force
Just back from our branch.

Asked my friend who is the Sub Postmistress.

There was a suspension, but as of today you can send to Europe again, but you will need a Customs Declaration on the parcel.
Also DPD and DHL delivering here in Portugal
