I have been selling on eBay for years, little items, l am not a dealer. But lately l think sales are not as good, l am not overpricing, but not selling as much as l used to. Anyone else found this? When l scroll down other sellers’ items, it seems that not many are getting bids. I sell mainly ladies clothes, children’s clothes.

Many people are not getting full wages at the moment due to Covid so there is less to spend on non-essentials.
I shop a lot on EBay, but never bid for stuff. Always use ‘ buy it now’. There’s a lot of big companies and overseas sellers of Ebay now, which may be effecting your sales.

Do you have to pay extra for Buy it Now??
Smurf- no you pay the price quoted by the seller.
My wife has stopped buying clothes as she is not going out. I'm sure that is the case for a lot of people, they are living in their old 'leisure' clothes.

Sorry l meant does the seller pay more for Buy it Now?
Smurf more than what?
Ebay fees are the same whether it's an auction or buy-it-now.....10% of final selling price incl postage
The seller sets a price to buy it now or best offer. If the bids do not reach the asking price then yes buy it now would cost more than the highest bid.Hope this answers your query.
Smurf the selling fees for buy it now and Auction are the same. You can check this out on eBay.

I would hazard a guess people are reticent about buying 2nd hand clothes, or clothes from a private seller, for obvious reasons .

Charity shops are having the same problems.
Danny // The seller sets a price to buy it now or best offer. If the bids do not reach the asking price then yes //

When a product is advertised as 'Buy it now' there is no bidding on it. Yu buy it like something on Amazon. When an item is listed in an Auction with a set start price, one has the opportunity as a seller, to add a 'buy it now' price to the listing which has to be 35% higher than the opening bid. This give the buyer a chance to wait to see if he gets if for his bid, or get it straight away if he thinks the 'buy it now' price is reasonable.

In al cases the listing price (usually free for non business users) is the same.
ps don't confuse the listing price with sellers fees they are two different things.
APG, if you check you will see that some items are advertised as 'buy it now or best offer'
Danny I have no need to check I've been selling on Ebay since it started and have sold 1000,s of items -I have an Ebay shop.

Read my post again -it explains the difference between a 'Buy it now' listing and an 'Auction Listing' that has a buy it now feature.
APG, OK, I bow to your superior knowledge :-)
Just trying to give out the correct info for the OP Danny. :-)

Thanks all x
Just IMO, I don't see Ebay as that great now. I would use ebay for two reasons, 1. if I had problems getting locally, and 2. much cheaper price, (I'm talking new goods only here) I find a lot of traders are now, and have been for a long time trying to charge way over the odds. Now you might say well they won't sell if their to expensive, some people don't check, just order, assuming that ebay is still the best place.
A good example is only just this week I was looking for a diaphragm for my toilet inlet valve, just to keep as spares, for those who don't know what I'm talking about, its basically a simple rubber washer that costs pennies to make, B.Q sell them x 2 for £2.50 but they had sold out, no big deal I can wait, but just out of interest had a look on ebay, some were trying to get £4/5 for one, plus postage, it (weighs nothing) another trader was trying to get, ( shocking) £23 for 3, disgusting really. I've seen many many items way over priced and some people do get caught out. This may be one of the reasons ebay have been running adds on TV the last few months, plus covid no doubt.
Local sites offering similar devices on a smaller scale are spreading, we have a good one and because it's local you don't get as many cheap price but inflated postage issues that seem to reinvesting e bay right now. E.g wanted a skein of thread, listed at 0.99 postage 2.99 the thread weighs less than a 2 p piece. I bought it on Amazon 1.49 free delivery. E bay is no longer the first place I look.
12.44 Yes its a shame that some traders have just got to greedy. The other item I needed three months ago ( the toilet again) was a flush unit, I can fit myself, so only need to buy the part, I got mine for £13, again just out of interest I looked on ebay, nearly fell off my chair, £27 for the same one, and i mean the same, same brand same manufacturer, ( not a copy at all) there's just no excuse for that!! this has got to be the worst one I've come across, for price difference.
