I don’t know how much compensation Lissie may receive for the loss of her husband in such appalling circumstances - not that any amount will really compensate - but spending money on low-lives like these people sticks in the craw a bit. Yes, I know … they're 'entitled'.

Agreed. Lost for words.
In an ideal world these animals would have been dead and buried by now, unfortunately though life's not fair.
It's always difficult when a system to protect those who clearly deserve it, applies to those who clearly do not.

But the law has to be even handed in order to function.
If only there was an opt out' clause of what our taxes should be spent on.....
Disgraceful slime balls , all that and more should go to Lissie,it won't bring her husband back I know but I'd like to see those responsible just rot behind bars forever and kept off our streets
They deserve life sentences not legal aid. None of the scumbags have shown any remorse for their actions.
What really, really annoys me about all this is the fact that there is NO remorse whatsoever from these low life scum, nor their families I suspect. Every time something like this is in the news, Lissie and PC Harper's parents must feel like the knife is twisting again and again. Justice only seems to apply to scum!
they may be 'entitled' but how can a cost of nearly half a million pounds be justified for under a year's work?
I could cry every time I see a picture of this lovely young man - a truly terrible waste of a good life.

Odd that laws that aren’t nearly so generously ‘even handed’ function well enough elsewhere then.
Sometimes it’s true....
The laW IS an ass!
can they not put a cap on the amount lawyers charge for legal aid , i feel so sorry for the the family of PC Harper
Everyone should be entitled to a fair trial, and be properly represented: but how they rack up nearly half a million for an incident for which there was little dispute, is jaw-dropping.
^ 'gravy train' springs to mind
// It's always difficult when a system to protect those who clearly deserve it, applies to those who clearly do not.//

erm this was money paid to expensive lawyers
the defendants didnt pocket it themselves

//Two of his killers - 18-year-old Albert Bowers and Jessie Cole - last week lodged applications with the Court of Appeal seeking permission to challenge their convictions and their 13-year prison sentences.

Getaway driver Henry Long, 19, who was jailed for 16 years lodged an application on Friday to appeal against his sentence.//

And how much is that going to cost?
It's disgusting, and they are entitled, and they kind of have to be -- not for their sake but for everybody else's. Granting legal protection only to the innocent is, after all, a violation of the principle of presumption of innocence; the right of appeal is also important, because miscarriages of justice *do* happen, and, again, there would be no sense in only allowing the innocent to appeal.

None of this makes it any less reasonable to be disgusted; it's obvious that they have no remorse and only intend to abuse the system, either deliberately to cause pain or because they are, and always have been, unfeeling and selfish.
Speechless! What is there to say?
obvious grounds of appeal
is no intention to injure

they cd not foresee that a rope wd snag the officer let alone drag him to his death

I thought with a little er more than legal aid
(there is no fat on legal aid)
they might be acquitted on such grounds
( in a court - no not the court of AB)
// Speechless! What is there to say?//
silent but still able to write - thank god (for AB and its system of 'logic')

The system should not revolve around hum, inability to pay - in order to achieve convictions

even I - at my maddest - can see that would be - unfair
but still - the usual suspects on AB may disagree

Question Author
//obvious grounds of appeal

They can hardly appeal on those grounds. They dragged him for more than a mile!
