I've just entered 'student benefits uk' into my Google search box, and I've got a long list of websites. Perhaps you might try that?
He may be able to claim income support until he is 21. Tell him to contact the jobcentre on 0800 055 6688

Does he still live at home?
What sort of course is he doing? Further or higher education?
Does he have access to the student loan system?
Some parental support is assumed in student finance- are his parents still around ?
Tell me about it FF. My son starts uni in September. He got awarded £5,000 and his mate got awarded £9,000.

So we're going to have to pay, which we don't mind of course.

Luckily the job he has now have said they'll leave his position open for him to work in half terms and summer holidays.
