Husband has claimed his PPI back. But has only been sent half the amount as the account was in joint names. In the original letter they said they would be contacting the other person. After a month of not hearing anything, we rang the bank. I spoke to them giving my details, DoB, place of birth etc. They said it was not me on the document. My husband had not been married before or had any long term relationships. We have written to the bank asking for the name of the person. Still no reply. We have just rung after not hearing anything in a month. They are still refusing to give out that other name. Is there anything further we can do.??

not an answer doris - but how long does an enquiry on PPI take - just on two companies
I once invoked the Freedom of Information Act on a credit card company that was unwilling to part with information. It worked like a charm.
Surely your husband must have some idea of whoom he took out a joint loan with ?

jennyjoan, we filled in forms for several banks and several wrote back quite quickly, about 2 weeks saying that nothing was owing. But then one turned up trumps. They just said something showed up and they were making further inquiries. About one month later husband got cheque for half the money. We are no fighting to get the other half sorted.
We filled in forms via moneysupermarket.com, just follow links.
Bazile. if the husband had a joint account with someone other than his wife they would not be asking the bank who it was.
Perhaps it wasn't actually your husband, just someone else with the same name.

Brazile, this is the problem. He would not have had a joint account other than with me!!

Hopkirk, and date of birth???
Definitely go to the Financial Ombudsman, straightaway.
I should keep your head down - seems like they've attributed the wrong account to your husband, and if they discover the error they will claim back what they've already given you.
Just a thought - could he have been a guarantor, perhaps for one of the children?
Maybe worth him looking at his credit record- if there was a financial association it would have shown on there I think
