For weeks now Barclays have shut down their online service on a Sunday to 'Ring Fence' their banking systems. What is involved in this and how long does it take? It's very annoying not being able to check your account or transfer / pay money online.

^ yes ,the first few times they did it I could not use my bank card either ( even though they said I should be able to) as it just came up with 'Service provider not responding'
I understand its for compliance with a new law. depending on how their electronic systems are set up, different banks will need to make different changes in order to comply.

I guess that after 'weeks now' I'd be doing all my essential financial stuff on the other six days in the week or move to another bank.
I have had ATM problems on Sunday mornings too... "cannot process request at the moment "
i have just checked my Barclays account no problem in looking at the account, transactions...
I agree Douglas, NatWest went through similar issues I just ensured everything was done before shutdown!

^ Yes Islay ,but often you can't even use your bank card in a shop or cash point on Sunday, despite the bank saying you can. You just get a message saying 'unable to process transaction'.
I took cash out in the Saturday to be safe it’s just a case of being a little prepared for some minor inconvenience

emmie, just tried to log into my Barclays online account. Just a message 'service not available at present'
Pity they didn't already have that due to self regulation. Would hopefully help limit the damage from investment gamblers.
