All flights to cancun cancelled until at least October 31st.

I am not an impulsive person, I don't do last minute.com or anything else last minute. I need order and planning in my life. Therefore, as order, planning and Wilma have not worked out for me, I have decided to take the fourth option from Airtours.

As far as I am concerned, if there is any hotel in the world that can take the four of us with 24 hours notice, it is not very popular. Our hotel in Cancun was booked up 8 months ago.

My decision is to not go to a place I have never ever fancied, especially on the last minute. I have rebooked for May 25th next year, cos then I can have 2 weeks instead of 1.

I now have to celebrate my 50th in miserable old England made more miserable by miserable old me, I will start serious drinking on Saturday night if anyone fancies a few scoops.

Can I just say that the travel industry as a whole have been spectacularly efficient and wonderful considering the trouble the hurricane has caused.

So CB and the rest might have to put up with me all day for the next week! Ha Ha!

Very sorry you're going to miss your holiday, but I for one would welcome your company dot.
the reason your Cancun hotel was booked up is that it's a very popular resort with Americans. Sri Lanka isn't. As for the spicy food you mentioned on another post, I don't think Sri Lankan is any spicier than Mexican. Other places about the same distance would include Mauritius, Kenya (for a safari/beach holiday perhaps?) and Dubai, all doable for similar prices I believe. Anyway, bottoms up!

jon, my ops manager at work had a safari holiday in Kenya 5 years ago and they were out camping and were ambushed by thirves. They were attacked with machetes and she had a fractured skull, her guides were tied up to an electric fence, (no idea why there was an electric fence there) and the robbers had brought home made bows and arrows to finish them off. Can't remember how but the robbers were frightened off. Oh, and they chewed all her skin off her fingers to get her rings off. She has put me off Kenya. Six months after they returned to UK she was able to go back to work, she had a letter from the Kenyan authorities saying they had convicted one of the culprits and it was up to her whether he was hung or beheaded (I think they were the two options) she did not reply to their letter.

I don't think I would have considered anywhere in Africa or Asia for a holiday under any circumstances.

But thanks for your advice anyway.

Perhaps you could have considered a cruise. We went to Cancun on one of our day trips. The day we boarded our ship there was a hurricane on its way. Nowhere as severe as this recent one. The ship sailed away and had to make detours to different ports as some of the destinations were not safe to go to. A week later when we arrived back in port we saw the damage that had been done with power lines down. lamposts on their sides. All the shops still had no power. It was quite scarey. Sorry to hear of your holiday being cancelled but you will have something to look forward to in the new year and you will love it.
what a shame you have struck off all the fantastic resorts in Asia and Africa as a result of one terrible event. I have recentely visited Morroc. What a wonderful country - would thorouoghly recommend.
okay, dot, skip Kenya - how appalling! Must say I've been there a few times and had a great time, but quite understand why you'd rather not.
