If someone who receives job seekers allowance were to flatshare with two people who have full time jobs, would they be entitled to any housing benefits to cover their rent? The rent would be about £170 a month.

Don't know if this is in the right bit but i'm sure someone can help me out ^_^

yes. they will be eligible for hb and will have to show tenancy agreement, proof of residence etc.

So they would probably get all of their rent paid wouldn't they?

Said friend seems to think he will only get part of it paid and wants to wait until December when he's at least got a job. This flat is perfect and he just keeps saying no!!! He's getting on my last wick!

It has 3 bedrooms. I still live with my parents so this is my first time dealing with stuff like this which is why it's all still a bit confusing. My friend wanted to save a bit of money and hopefully start a job before we got a flat but I don't understand why he can't just get the hb and do this first. The flat just seems perfect. It would be a totally wasted opportunity :|

you will be liable for the rent and council tax from the day you take over the tenency but you can put in the claim forms once you've signed the tenency agreement and set a moving in date, the claim will run from that date and when paid will be back dated to the start of the tenency, but remember that if any of you are working and one drops out of the deal you'll then need to either find a new tenenagt fast or be liable for 50% each, it's happened 3 times to my son after he started a shared tenancy with 2 other lads in a 3 bed property.
Maybe he is worried about the other expenses that go with renting a flat, such as utility bills and food; how would he pay for these with no job?

You have a point, CC, but we can cover costs or do without something until he can contribute accordingly.
