DD and payments happening the same day

My mortgage provider applied for their DD just after midnight, however the money (my salary) that would cover it went in at midday.

Unfortunately my bank bounced the DD - despite both tranactions happening on the same day.

Whilst i see the annoying logic to this, I am sure there is bank that works all the transactions at the end of the day (so my bouncing wouldn't have occured)

Anybody know wich bank it is?

I had that trouble with my bank. I found out that the bank is aware of monies due to come into the account and it is in their power to credit the account first and then send out the DDs after. Only it is a very good way of padding the charges against the account. I complained and threatened to make a big song and dance about it. They soon changed their policy on my acount at least

Thanks for your answers. I did ring them and complain, but basically got "them's the rules" as answer.

I have 3 accounts with them and have closed 2. I will close the 3rd (my main current account) when I decide where to open my new one.
Assuming salary payments and direct debits occur on a monthly cycle, this probably could have happend before and may happen again. Are you able to change the timing of your DD?
I assume the bank took the DD at the right time. Generally with banks there needs to be enough money in the account at, in effect, the close of business on the previous day to cover the nextday's direct debits. The salary would have had to go in the day before for you to be okay.
