After me and my ex-wife broke up and i moved out our home, i agreed to pay the £400 a month mortgage and credit card payments until we could either sell or rent out the property. Our joint bank account was with our mortgage lender but my salary was paid into my own current account after our split, she also opened an account for wages but our debt payments were transfered to our joint, the bank set up a no cash withdrawls from our joint account without both our signatures. It took 3 months to find a tennant who paid £600 month but only wanted 6 months. I stopped paying £400 a month but the letting agency paid £525 mnth into her account and she spent it on clothes, parties and holidays. 6 month later i found out we were in £3000 arrears and repossesion was in progress. The mortgage lender auctioned the house for £10000 below what it was worth and demanded the shortfall. I went to court to ask why my ex-wife was not being made to pay the judge told me she on benefits or she's remarried and they cant trace her. It was a joint mortgage so even if she remarries she must contribute or thats what i thought. Every time i became unemployed i did'nt pay but once i had found a job an attatchment of earnings would arrive. I now know that she works in a bank and i also know her address. If i pass all this information to the lender and the courts can i demand they pursue her and make her pay what she owes. Also is it true banks wont employ anyone who has debt problems as it involves money? I would rather give up work than pay mine and her debt. need some advice please.
thanks

No expert at all but from things I've read on here before, with joint debts both or either are responsible, so they are not bothered who pays. You cannot tell them to chase her to get them off your back, as they will still say you are responsible. I guess the only way is to try and sort it out with her to pay something, or maybe go down the legal road to try to make her.
Start making it difficult for her by calling her Manager at the bank .. and mention the joint debt and responsibilities.
That should get her to do something.
Good Luck.
Albags is correct. If she works in a bank they won't be impressed if they find out about the debt. Bank staff are for obvious reasons not expected to have debt problems and checks will have been make when she applied for the job.
I really sympathize, kevanski, she makes me ashamed of being female! Definitely let the bank know. She would probably get more help with debt than you are obviously getting.
I expect she fibbed when she applied for the job.
She should have mentioned the mortgage debt and the separation, etc.
If you start making waves, I'm sure she will do something.
