There are 3 main credit reference agencies - Equifax, Experian and CallCredit - you ideally need to check you file with all 3. If you google the names you will find their websites.

Searched by other lenders will be recorded and it could potentially go against you if you are applying for credit and have lots of searched recorded in a short period of time.
