I got a loan with GE Money, they seemed quite helpful when I took out the loan. Then I was off of work for two months due to ill health and got in arrears. I called and asked for their help and they were soooooo rude. I was then diagnosed with breast cancer, but they didnt seem to care. They will not accept a manageable payment plan for me and insist I pay 100-00 ontop of my monthly instalment to make up the shortfall. I cannot afford this. They say they will repossess my house if I dont agree to it. Everytime I speak to someone to sort this out a couple of days later another personal calls to tell me something different. They are really upsetting me and I dont know what to do. My main mortgage is with the Abbey and they have been brilliant, but GE Money are the worst ever DONT BORROW FROM THEM. Anyone got any views or advice for me.

Hi is your loan with GE money secured on your property? and if you dont mind saying how much did you borrow and how much are you behind?
It's fairly unlikely that they will be any more helpful as time goes by. They have a second mortgage - if they are concerned for their money then they will take action quickly. If they repossess then they first have to pay off Abbey before they can take their share. They will automatically assume that you are also having problems paying Abbey and this will make them even more nervous. The second mortgage is not regulated - which means that they don't have a strict code of conduct to follow (unlike Abbey.)

Speak to GE and ask for their arrears department. Get a response on the phone and ask them to confirm any agreements in writing - this will save conflicting stories. If you can't get anywhere on the phone then write to them outlining a payment proposal, recorded delivery with EVERYTHING on there (details of missed payments, details of previous calls and why you need to do what you are proposing.) If you're feeling really brave then state that if you don't hear from them in writing within 14 days then you will assume that they have agreed to your proposal. Explain that you need this resolved as soon as possible, as there are other more important things occurring in your life right now.

If all this fails then I'd go to the local press. Some of these companies will only learn if you play rough with them.
I deal with GE Money every working day and i understand your frustration and worry. Are you sure you did not take out a payment protection plan with them when you tool the loan,?

I took out payment protection for my husband, but as I had cancer and was quite upfront about it, they said they could not protect me. Thinking about it im quite confused.com. My house is in my husbands name only and the loan we took out with them is secured on our property in joint names. Can I secure a loan against a property that dosnt legally belong to me? janex
You can have a loan secured on a property in your name as long as you have the property ower on the loan agreement as well, so you could not just take a loan out and secure it on someone's property without them signing the agreement as well.
