What credit card charges?

Question Author
I am thinking of things like late payment charges, over limit charges, etc
According to Martin Lewis, yes.

But be prepared for your credit card agreement to be terminated.
Due to a bereavement in our family recently, I went over my credit limit recently by accident due to my husband having so much unpaid time off work after his mum died. I got charged an overpayment fee which was not a huge amount but it wasn't the amount it was the principle. I rung up the Halifax and told them my circumstances, had to explain to 4 different people in tears what had happened and the last one refused to back down. i was furious over this and wrote a strong letter to them and heard absolutely nothing back and presumed they were going to do nothing about it until I got my next bill and they had refunded the charges!! I was so pleased to have won then I received a letter of apology for the way I had been spoken to and further down the line they upped my credit limit (which of course I refused and have since paid the bill off, the robbing gits aren't going to get any more of my money!) sorry for going on but my point is yes you can get charges back if you have a genuinely good reason for it
I had 4 credit cards (now only got the 1 as I got rid of the rest) and I have claimed back charges on all of them. 3 of them gave me the difference between what they charged me and the 12 that the OFT said was a reasonable fee. Only 1 didnt reply to me so I took them to court and won the full amount.

None of my cards closed my accounts, I closed them when I cleared the balances.
If you are regularly running up charges due to late payments on your credit cards, the company may get the impression that you are an unreliable customer and can't afford to make the repayments, so as Ethel above has commented, they may consider withdrawing your facility. But if the late charges are simply because you are a disorganised person and can't meet deadlines, put your credit card minimum payments every month onto a direct debit so that the deadline will always be met. Then pay any additional amounts separately, or of course, you can settle the full amount by direct debit every month. It's easy to miss a deadline at this time of year because of holiday absences, etc. and a direct debit arrangement will prevent charges being run up in future.

I probably should have explained more, I have got out of my mess now and have cleared all the cards and cut them up. I wanted to see if there was any way to get my own back on them and get some of the charges back, even though I had already closed my account.

Thanks for all the replies xx
Yes you can claim back even if you have closed the accounts, just as long as it wasnt more than 6 years ago
