Hi, I received an SMS message on my home phone today asking me to contact Mackenzie Hall and they gave me a reference number. I ignored it cos I didn't know who they were, but I've googled the name and found they're a debt collection agency specialising in recovering really old debts, CCJ's etc - thing is I don't have any and I'm really worried about it as I've been reading some nasty stories about them. What should I do - contact them or ignore?

I just got an sms from them too!! I had never heard of them i have only been in my address for 8 months but the woman that was here before ran up alot of debt and i have none so i will not be contacting them! all i can say is i pity the person who contacts my husband!! does anyone know which companies they work for? thanks x
Someone seems to have used my address to run up debts. I've lived at the property for over 6 years. After repeatedly being contacted by Lowell Portfolio about a previous owner's debts, I had thought this sort of nonsense would just stop. The letter is a phishing for information request about a woman who has to my knowledge never lived at the address. I don't have any debts but I do agree with some of the comments on here, people pay your debts, or at least be responsible and stop the agencies from harrassing others where you used to live..To the woman whose elderly dad is being harrassed for her debts, face up to it if you have any kind of conscience at all, its not your dad's fault. Sometimes its a mistake and in those circumstances I wouldn't trust these companies to sort it out in a decent way but if you owe it or owed it then you'[re not blameless.
Ive just recieved a letter off mackencie hall saying that they are looking for me please contact them now,the thing is im o a debt releif order so i had a credit report done so every bit of money i owed out was included in the relief order,im really worried now just as ive sorted my debts out i get this,i dont wana contact them to scared, ive read loads about them they sound awful, any one got any advice on what to do,please help.
Same has just happened to me. Text message from them with a number to call and a reference no. I rang them up and asked who they were as I hadn't a clue what MH was and she said I can't do anything without the ref no. So I gave it her. She then asked for my name and we don't have to state this to anyone if we don't wish to. I asked who she was looking for and she wouldn't answer this until she got my name (which didn't happen). As others have said no letters, certainly no debt :/ Deffo not going to contact them again until I have a letter stating their 'known' info and signed by the company in wet ink. The society were living in people are blindly trying to 'rob' the less fortunate when they live to survive. Only if I had a space ship buzz! I'd fly the fook on outta here :) Peace!

Check out this link I found as they have done the same to me - as well as ringing my home number at 20:45 repeatedly!
Yes, I received a letter today saying that Mackenzie Hall had been instructed by The Lending Stream agency to recover £1198.00 on their behalf - I never borrowed any money from any lending company and definitely not from the so called agency. I replied back in September to The Lending Stream asking them for proof and details related to this debt, but never received a reply. I faxed and e-mailed Mackenzie Hall telling them that there must be some sort of ID fraud. I haven't yet receive a reply. Did I do the right thing??
I had the same issue with scotcall another annoying debt collectors sending me letters and leaving text messages and calls to contact them and even emailed me which i have no clue how they got all this info and it was to do with an o2 contract phone debt of £700 which for starters ive never been with o2 ive always been an orange customer i emailed there customer service stating that i've never had an o2 contract and never received any letters or calls from o2 regarding this debt and if i had id have told them the same thing and that i want the true bill for this and the contract in my name with my signature on showing that i had taken out this contract phone and if they didn't stop texting me calling me emailing me and sending me letters i would do them for harassment and that if they persist on carrying on il have my solicitor brought in and sew them for harassment and for causing me stress with there threats of sending bailiffs to my house. there reply was we have received your email and will pass this on to our client and since then i've not heard a thing and thats because they don't have any proof or contract with my name and signature on it and my solicitor advised me that if they persisted he would intervene on my behalf and deal with them which he said they would loose more than the price of what they are trying to collect as there a third party company which without proof they cant do anything.
Well this has answered the query I was going to ask, did any one know any thing about these people. I have received an e-mail asking me to contact them immediately though the name is spelt wrong I have lived at my address for over 40 years and certainly never owed a bean to any one , I wondered if it was a scam
