Hey guys. I have posted this question in the motoring section, but I am posting it here too on the off-chance an insurance specialist stumbles across it. I am a named driver on my partner's insurance. A few weeks ago, I was driving and my other half was a passenger and a 3rd party went into the back of us. My other half has made a claim and it is in process as we speak. I am wanting to get a car of my own, and consequently searching for my own insurance deal. The question that I have is this: Am I deemed to have made an insurance claim? To confirm, I am a named driver but my other half has made the claim on their insurance. Thanks in anticipation!

I think they have you both ways - one of the questions they ask is something like has anyone who will drive the car been involved in an accident in the last 3 (or 5) years - as well as one about claims.

Given that a third party went into the back of you (which is Their Fault unless they can prove to the contrary) it may not make much difference to you. The trouble is that it may take time to recover costs from the third party and make the claim ignorable.

I am pleased that you answered dzug - you always give informed answers - and this is no exception! :)

My other half will be able to drive my car as they are covered on their exising policy (the right to drive another person's car with their permission). Therefore, I will not have to go down this road (thankfully).

I was in a quandary as to where I stood - I feel as though you have clarified my position. Thanks!
