If a wife pays reduced NI contributions during the years she worked so that the family had more money available - in the expectation she would share her husband's state pension when they retired, but then he leaves the family home, claims his pension and leaves her on a reduced pension as a result of her missing contributions, is there anything she can do to improve her situation? Thanks.

I'd have thought that if they are still married it's a matter for them to sort out between themselves, but the law can work in surprising ways. We may need someone like Barmaid
Has she tried applying for state earnings related benefits or pension credit?

No Factor30 she hasn't but I will suggest she looks into it. Thank you.
I would think if they are still married she would be entitled to a full pension. She should appeal and see what happens.
