I receive retirement pension and a pension from my deceased husband's work. I pay tax on these and have just cancelled a private health insurance of £93 a month that i pay from my husbands pension.Do I need to inform the tax office of this please. /Thank you Janet

I doubt they need to know about a private health insurance as it's not a tax deductible item. I can't see why you'd need to tell them but for peace of mind you can give them a ring and ask them to check you are not paying too much tax- you should get quite a substatial tax free allowance

Thank you Factor for your reply - I certainly think I am paying too much tax. one of the reasons I am cancelling my private health insurance, but I guess everyone thinks the same. However, I will give them a ring and check and thank you for taking the time to reply. Janet
Everyone has a personal tax allowance(depending on your age) whereby the first X amount of income is tax free, it doesn't matter whether his income is from a job or a pension! The bands are as follows:

Under 65 = £7,475
65 - 74 = £9,940
75 & over = £10,090

Your health insurance will have no bearing on the amount of tax you pay!
