Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

I hope everyone has been enjoying the small amount of warmer weather we had in the last couple of weeks, I think we are now into the April showers though!

Hopefully, the weather will start to really pick up and the traditional summer barbecues can really get going.

I think this is a great way to eat healthy, lots of salad (without dressing or with low fat if necessary) and plenty of protein, as long as it is cooked all the way through :-)

Here are a couple of bbq recipes which are healthy and remember if it rains you can always just go indoors and cook on the grill:

This looks yummy and you could always chuck in something different if you didn't like the ingredients.

Sometimes no matter how great your meal is if you slather it with a full fat, high salt and sugar sauce you can be in trouble but making your own sauces can be really easy and you don't have to have bbqed the dinner to enjoy extra flavour

This is a healthy version of a basic bbq sauce, it is from an american site so obviously molasses means syrup :-)

and something a little different:

Enjoy!

Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

Thanks ABAuntie
Thanks Auntie. My weight is more or less maintaining now, so I don't contribute to this thread much now. I read everyone's posts to see how you're all doing, and get inspiration if I've had a bad week.
Thanks ab auntie .
Well done marijn for maintaining . Please look in now and again to let us know how you are doing .
Thanks Wendilla. I will do :-)
Thanks Auntie.
A big thanks also to you lot for your support and tips. Today my doctor here at the rehab hotel was able to tell me that I no have diabetes 2. I have eaten and slimmed my way out of it!
Wow, that's amazing Xstitcher! Well done!
Great ! :-D
Good morning Because I have cut down on my bread I have lost 2 lbs this week .I made my own bread of which the slices are smaller but not had it every day .Only use it for toast .Also back to planning my weeks menu which always helped .XSTITCHER well done you just need to get yourself on the upwards now.
Good on you Wend.

As for me, up yet another 1.4 lbs apparently. Jumped up last Thursday, continued to rise to the end of the week (maybe the weekend, no chance to weigh myself Sunday) and dropped slightly since.

I know I'm not controlling things properly, I get around to working out what I've really had, caloriewise, after the day I've actually had it, and it's always over. Not that I'm gorging myself sick, it all seems normal/reasonable but one seems to use/need so little and yet crave/need so much more. Lifestyle is due to change soon one way or another; maybe I'll get more in control then, or maybe less: who knows.
Og the secret is to plan your meals in advance and write everything down. I always preached this when xstitcher and I started this posts must be 3 years now .But I have not been doing this and that is why I have been staying the same . When I do gain it is not because I have gorged myself either it is because I have not planned my meals and had a few things I shouldn't have had ,Over the 3 years I have lost 2 stone but I would like 1 more off .And I won't do if I don't get back to what I preach
You are likely right but at least some of the week I am not in control of what I have really, as I am a guest elsewhere. Not that, that is the total cause of the problem. Don't wish to make excuses; but eating healthily doesn't always help either. Knowing I need something quick when I get into work I tend to snack before the meal is ready. I thought tomatoes are low cal but have just checked the "cost" of having that tub of sundried tomatoes last night. It alone was about a sixth of my day's allowance ! Little seems instinctive. I should stick to bags of crisps, or slices of bread & marge, or plates of biscuits, or something; they'd be "lighter".
not "into"
"in from" !
Like I typed >>>>>:-(
A late good morning to you all.

Good got you Wendilla, 2 lbs is good, keep it up.

OG consider the snack bars they have in Lidl. I can't renember what they are called but are made up of musli and things. A half of one for a quick fix is sufficient. A change of life style soon OG hmmmmm. How many are guessing the same as I am?

I don't have any control over my food at the moment and the phrase " loosing weight" is a dirty word here but I think I know how to control it. My little fridge in my room has cheery tomatoes, celery and apples in it.

Hi all,

Xstitcher that is brilliant news for you (at 17.37) well done. I read a thing recently that said someone else had done something similar. But he had gone on one of those quick "starvation" diets and all the fat around his internal organs had gone and the pressure on pancreas (and other things) was much improved and he was no longer diabetic.

Glad to help, you are a brilliant bunch of people on this thread. I know things get a little heated elsewhere but despite all that you are always very supportive to each other.

Good luck :-)

Thanks for the kind words Auntie. We have become quite a close knit bunch here and genuinely care how the others make out and know how important their support is.
Thanks Auntie, that's nice. Well done Wendilla! Xstitcher, I like the sound of "cheery" tomatoes :-) And OG, I hope your lifestyle change is a positive one.
I second Marijn's wish OG.
No change again for me this week and sorry this is a flying visit. Just called in to say hello and to send my best wishes to you all, especially you xstitcher.
Take care.
How kind of you Maydup. Thank you.
Thanks for the good wishes, all. I'm hoping it will be positive in the longer term, but it is extremely stressful at present, and an uncertain period for the first 18 to 24 months. Ho hum, life is full of adventures I suppose.

Well, at least you didn't go up Maydup :-)
