on the night my chap broke up with me (about the 5th time, sucker i know :( he walked out of my house and locked me in and took my house keys. I'd like my keys back really, i can't afford to have my locks changed, i don't fear him but i don't like the idea of anyone having my keys. I gave him all his belongings back that night, but find it strange that he kept hold of my keys (he knew he had them because he locked me in!)i'm not contacting him, of that much i'm sure, i don't want him thinking i'm looking for a reason to contact him, still it bugs me why he would do such a thing. Its not hard for him to post them if he doesnt want to see me. should i just forget it?

Change the lock.
She said she can't afford to.

I'd ask for them back if I was you. My ex kept his key and quite a few times I'd come home and he'd be sitting in the house.
^ Sorry... I didn't read your original question properly.
I agree - change the lock. You never know, even if he returns the keys he might have copies of them. (don't mean to worry you but he did take the keys so who knows)
Changing the lock would be best, if you really can't afford that then fit a chain or security bar so you can at least have the extra security when you're home. Obviously that won't stop getting access whne you are out if he wants to.
Does he have keys to all your external doors, or just the front door?

You can pick up some quite cheap door-locks to use as replacements.
If you really cant afford to change the locks for now, can you lock the front door from the inside, ie bolt the door and use the back door instead? Not many men, in my experience, have a back door key
Do you have a large male relative who could pop round and sweetly ask him for your keys?
I assume he's the one for your previous (first) post. if you think he's bi-polar, get your keys back or change the locks. you need some peace of mind.

you say he locked you in.. really, this situation doesn't worry you?
i wouldn;t trust that he hasn;t made copies. i would try the bolting the front door as suggested until you can afford to get the locks changed. I had to check mind done recently cost £50 for the lock and labour was free
Did you buy the house together?
You mentioned "my house", if you do own the house then taking your keys is theft, the police should be involved.
Change the locks even if he does return the keys....he could have made copies.
if your lock is the Yale type .get a spare key and cut it shorter ,put the offcat into the lock and use the small key as normal

dash ;-p
In fairness I don't think it can be that expensive to change locks on 2 external doors, front and back. Worth it for the peace of mind I'd have thought.

Depending on the lock, some merely need a new barrel to replace the existing one.
