My mom is turning 44 and I have to get her something. She doesn't have very many hobbies, but she reads Harlequins, but she can get those any time. Is there a practical gift for women her age and if anyone has any idea could they please let me know? Thank you! Three cheers for march break!

I am 42 and the gifts I like to receive are: gift vouchers for manicures because it's not something I would normally buy for myself, a really special bouquet of flowers (I normally only buy daffs for myself) or dvds of the films I have missed at the cinema to watch at my leisure or something to do with my hobby (but you say you mum doesn't have many) . I hate to receive toiletries (I like to choose my own fragrances etc. or chocolates, because the rest of the family eat them!) - hope this helps in some way.

that's cool, thanks for your input
I love high end pamper products that I wouldn't normally buy for myself. If you think she might like a little luxury (let's face what woman doesn't!) then have a look at Jo Malone, Molton Brown or Space NK for some ideas. Good Luck!

Have you thought about a Spa weekend or even a red letter day experience www.redletterday.co.uk. Shopping spree's in London are always a good idea with a nice lunch somewhere!

I would say treatment vouchers for a reputable salon would be a lovely idea. Another idea, I bought my mum a lovely ornate oil burner for mothers day and bought some essential oils with a book on all there uses and properties she absoloutly loved it!
All the previous posts have been from women, so I would certainly defer to their judgement... however, have you thought of a Mother's ring?  Especially if you have brothers and/or sisters.  Ones with smaller stones to match the children's birth months are not terribly expensive... just a thought...
I know this is not at all exciting, but for Christmas I bought my Mum a new dressing gown. She'd struggled on with the same one for 22 years with never a thought of getting a new one even though it was really tatty and she uses it every day so I bought her a good quality fleecy new one and she was really touched. I think sometimes Mums don't get out of the habit of making do and for someone to notice and replace something they've put up with a long time is something they appreciate.
i bought my mum some liquers and olive oil from vomfass. i could choose what bottle to put the liquer in. I thought a heart shaped bottle was good for  mothers day and i got my girlfriends mum a ladies shoe.

very nice they were really chuffed cos it was unique, i got the online shop to write my message on it. they said they were really touched by it.

their website is

www.vomfassuk.com or call them on 0870 750 0962

the trouble is I think i am hooked now lol, I can't stop buying for myself hee hee.
Oh just remembered we bought my mother in law a citrus tree (Orange) in a pot for indoors and she loves it! In the spring when it flowers is just beautiful and the fragrance is wonderful. Then when the fruit grows and ripens you can make jam.
My sis bought my mum a rug making kit for Christmas and she was chuffed with it. Quite practical!
why not buy her a star?  Lovely
you should take her to a spa or something relaxing!!!
