Side of my face began becoming painful constantly yesterday but it has been niggling for a few days.

Today its like the rest of my face is numb and all I can feel is a searing, burning pain from my forehead straight down over the corner of my lips into my jaw.

My jaw feels like its locked and my lips at that side are tingling.

I have a red spot but its been there for a week but its tender to touch but that could just be as the my face is so sore.

I have just seen the Pharmacist in Boots and she advised NHS24 as as a GP will cover our area (rural) over the weekend. She wouldnt give me anything.

She did mention Shingles.

The tingling in the lower half of my face in particular my lips are new symptoms today.

I could trace a line of the pain so im sure its some kind of nerve problem.

Has anyone else had similar symptoms ?

Any advice (over the counter pain relief isnt working) or personal experience would be appreciated on my particular

Strangely I have actually felt better today than ive felt for the last week (its taken me to get out my bed...)

^^ felt better apart from the blooming pain that is -was very lethargic but unable to sleep.
id agree with the nhs24 or a walk in centre, dris.
Much too early to offer a diagnosis.....come back to us in the morning. In the meantime take an analgesic such as Ibuprofen.
wisdom teeth ?
Question Author
Ta Tambo -but no wisdom teeth left (and it shows at times;))
Ibuprofen isnt touching the pain but i'll keep taking it -thanks Sqad.
redcrx -dont think a wee call to NHS24 would harm to see if there is going to be a GP at our Cottage Hospital in the next 24hrs.

I'll let you know how I get on.Thanks.
Dris, I was just thinking

you said you had come out in spots because of detox. Were these like blisters at all.

I have just found this

Post-herpetic neuralgia

A neuropathic pain which may follow an attack of shingles (herpes zoster). The pain tends to strike the eye/forehead region more so than the cheek or lower jaw regions. It is usually of a burning, aching or throbbing nature and may be accompanied by extreme tenderness. Post-herpetic pain responds well to low doses of tricyclic antidepressants and with some of the anticonvulsants used to treat classic TN.

I am not trying to diagnose - just remembered your post about the spots.

Hope you get it sorted. It sounds very upsetting.
My sister has similar at the moment, although no visible redness. She has just been diagnosed with an ear infection and sinusitis and been given two lots of antibiotics. Side of her face is swollen, numb in places, painful in others and tingling. She can't open her mouth properly either.
Hoe you feel better soon, Dris!
if it is shingles, or in case it is, get hold of Zovirax and slother it all over - the reusults of shingles can be scarring and nerve damage on the face, so taking a little pre-emptive step can't harm.

How spooky Susan -I was just about to post !!

Phoned NHS24 -couldnt stand the pain. The Cottage Hospital called me within 5mins of them contacting them.to ask me to come along as GP was there and wanted to see me.
Heart monitored etc (dues to jaw and lips tingling and locking) all OK.
Being treated for Trigeminal Neuralgia at the moment and have been given Diclofenic 50mg to take 3 times a day -however he wants to monitor me over the weekend and I have a number to call at Ninewells Hospital to update as he cant rule out Post -Herpetic Neuralgia due to the spot and rash which would mean a different medication (good shout Lottie -ta).
First tablet has been duly lashed -havent even looked at side effects cos I just need to get some relief from this pain -even just to dull it.
Top marks to NHS24 have to say -probably luck the on call GP was there but im not complaining !!
I'll keep you posted.
Thanks all for your concern and help -it sure helps to share ;)
Sounds horrendous Dris. Hope you're feeling better soon.

I had it once - years ago. It was like an electric shock going through my face. Mines went away relatively quickly. I hope it clears up soon.

Susan
Wish you out of pain soon Dris. i have had shingles and the pain was something else, keeping me awake for the best part of a week. As soon as I nodded off the pain awoke me. My friend's father had post-herpetic neuralgia and that too was very painful.Glad you had such a result from NHS24. I sincerely hope the pain reliever works quickly for you xx

Thanks Mrs C,pix and Susan -heres hoping the tablets work or even knock me out -it is extremly painful but at least its getting treated thats the main thing !
At least you are getting some treatment there Dris. Because of the site of my shingles - shoulder and back - and the acute deep pain I thought I had some lung associated illness (cough, cough) and was too scared to go to the doctor for the first 10 days! By the time i did visit I was nearly over the worst of it. It was a relief though to get the diagnosis - left the surgery and had a celebratory ciggie immediately ;o)
Good luck Dris. So glad you saw someone straight away. Hope you get a good sleep.

Lottie -im just hanging fire for my next tablet then I think i'll be flat out.
Tell you -maybe it was just me but they bl00dy well did take the sting out -wearing off but have felt pretty 'floaty' all night in a very good way so think i'll float off to bed -im sore needing a good sleep.
Let you know tomorrow night when I waken up how im feeling ;)
No advice dris, but sympathy. You must feel dreadful, it sounds awful.
