Being a long haul commercial pilot for many years, I can recommend it. Many pilots I know use to crossing several time zones also use it. I haven`t personally but I used to get it from the States for a friend of mine who gets jet-lag for about 10 days after a holiday. She said it made a big difference and enabled her to go straight back to work without nodding off at her desk.

I refrain from extended use, but have used it 2 weeks in a row with no problems falling asleep when I quit using it after that period.
If you do use it, be sure to find a reliable, content controlled brand since many of them vary widely in the amount of Melatonin content...

Look,
Our works (airline) health services told us not to use it as it hasn`t been "approved" by anyone and they`re not sure of the long term effects. I`m blessed that I don`t get jet-lag but I might take it if I was a passenger and had problems sleeping.

Thank you for your advice 237SJ and Clanad. I have been having serious problems with insomnia for several years now and my GP won't prescribe sleeping pills due to my lung disease so i'm looking for something to use every now and then to aid me in falling and staying asleep.
I'm very glad to hear there are no effects that can be felt the day after use!

Now I just have to find a reliable brand here in the UK :)
Yes daffy, I use it. I have taken 2mg per night for the past 2 months and it is very effective. I used to lie awake for hours every night and go around like a zombie all day; and I had the most horrendous black rings beneath my eyes!
I found these to be the best value:

They don't 'make' you sleep in the way that sleeping tablets do. For me they make the difference between lying there knowing that sleep is impossible and feeling 'sleepy' so that I just drift into sleep. Well worth a try to see if they work for you IMO.
I can confirm they are very effective and I take 2 x 1mg on the nights I have trouble sleeping. They take about an hour to work for me and I get them from the same source as mm. You don't get any after affects. They don't work for everyone though as my son tried them to no avail.
