I had that the first night after I had one in my shoulder but within a day it went away and miraculously so did all the pain I'd had in it for months before. I found a hot water bottle helped but you have all my sympathies. It's because the anaesthetic they include with the injection has worn off I think.

Thanks prudie - I'm sat here with a hot water bottle and painkillers! This is the 2nd inj - the 1st didnt hurt at all and the pain in my shoulder did disappear straight away. That was 4 months ago! My dr. has said that I might have to go for MRI scan if it doesnt work!
good luck yelenots, hope you're OK soon, I was going to add that 2 family members have both had cortisone injections and both said they were in agony the first night.
I had a cortisone injection for De Quervain's tendonitis. Was lovely for the first few hours as he also put in an anesthetic, but once that wore off it hurt like hell!

I have a very high pain threshold but this was so painful. I was crying and that is very unusual for me. It took a good few days to wear off and feel better. Looking back, although painful, it was worth it.
