Is there anything I can do to either stop the ends of my fingers splitting (tiny little cuts that run vertically up from the nails) or to make them heal quicker. I've only got one at the moment but I seem to be hitting it all the time. Thanks

What about some of that artificial skin you can paint on? Is it something like a vitamin deficiency makes it happen for you?

I think it is a combination of things - the weather (always forget my gloves when I am pushing the buggy), washing up by hand (dishwasher is in the garage), changing two sets of nappies (although I use fragrance free wipes), bathing lots of children, etc.
I get this too sometimes, although my fingers split in the side creases. It's so sore! I massage in some germolene (ointment not cream) and put fabric sticking plasters on. This helps retain moisture and suppleness while the crack heals.
Washing up is a major culprit, I always use rubber gloves now.
Get a good barrier cream and use regularly.
hi i get this every winter! what i normally do is before you go to bed put loads of hand cream on. i tend to fill the gap and then seal it with a plaster, in the morning you will see the difference. i would use neutronena hand cream, but any hand cream would be fine make sure its for Dry chapped hands. also use it as often as you can,

Thanks for all your answers - best add plasters and hand cream to the home-shopping list.
Mr mac uses eucerin for this - works a treat Sherrard. You can get it from Boots x
My dad suffers from cracked skin on his fingers, he swears by a product called Snowfire, it comes in a stick form which you massage into the cracks.
Nu Skin (from Boots) and marigolds
I used to work as a window cleaner and every winter without fail my hands would become so dry and chapped I used to use barrier cream before and after work. Someone suggested that I should use a generous amount of barrier cream last thing at night and wear a pair of thin cotton gloves overnight......worked a treat. Might be worth a try?
plasters and nivea cream the one thats in the tin not the face stuff when you go to bed
