Problems with BT Landline

Previously had a thread on here about the problems I'm having with my Internet - keeps coming up with IE cannot display the webpage.

Someone suggested it might have something to do with my landline as it's really hissy and crackly. Did all the tests and asked BT to do a line test
and they came back to say the problem was probably in the house.

Did a line test from the master socket (at top of stairs) which is perfect! There's a cable running down the stairs and into the living room
which is where then phone and home hub are plugged in. On looking
inside the socket we noticed what looked like crystals (?!). Is that normal or does that scream of corrosion from somewhere? Going to buy
new socket and cable to see if that makes a difference.

Would something like that affect Internet connection do you think? Can still access it via phone so wireless working fine - just unable to connect via laptop.

Driving me bonkers!!

has this been happening for a while?

I had your problem, turned out that there was little I could do about it as it was down to the numbers of people using the internet on our exchange. you get a carrier but no data.

In the end I had to sign up to virgin, with no regrets ;)
That's a new one on me cazzz..........
if its good at your master socket then yes get a new extension box they come now with screw terminals so no silly push on tools required very good boxes at wilkos around a £5
It depends where you live craft, it doesnt happen to everyone, my service was so bad that I had no service!
and yes it does affect the internet of course, its a digital signal so crap line crap internet

Landline has been dodgy for ages but to be honest, as long as the Internet was ok then I wasn't bothered! Free calls on mobiles after all! Will try new socket and cable, see what happens then. It actually won't let us make outgoing calls now so definitely something wrong (but was fine using master socket).
